Sustainability with the anticipation of growth was the reason behind the newly constructed La Joya ISD Child Nutrition Center and Police Station in La Joya, Texas. Completed in 2013, the La Joya ISD Child Nutrition Center and Police Station opened its doors to serve the local community of La Joya. The newly constructed nutrition center provides students, faculty and staff with nutritious meals that are prepared and served in a pleasant environment. The attached police station serves to protect the safety and welfare of all students, district personnel and the district’s property.
One goal the school district wanted to achieve was low cost maintenance along with improvements to energy efficiency. Another of the project’s main focuses was to provide a center that would support and maintain the food services that is required by the state while educating children on proper nutrition. The new police station also enables increased productivity with a bigger and more organized facility to operate within.
Incorporating insulated panels allowed La Joya ISD to not only keep costs low but provide the energy efficiency and durability the buildings needed. The project consists of more than 5,900 square feet of MBCI’s 24-gauge CF Architectural insulated metal wall panels. The colors provided varied with 5,100 square feet of panels in Brite Red, 707 square feet in Snow White and 152 square feet in Slate Gray. The panels were manufactured in 30” widths and the lengths varied to achieve a mosaic look. David Monreal of Gignac & Associates, Harlingen, Texas, designed the project and Renee Cortez with the Laredo-based Leyendecker Construction was the general contractor.
